We ended up going to South Dakota for Thanksgiving this year...and to do a bit of hunting :)
Sam and Megan stayed with their dad for the holiday.
Travis brought his new girlfriend, Crystal and her child. This was our first time meeting them.

South Dakota Christmas - Birthday etc

Christmas/Birthday in South Dakota -

We left early for SD because Troys Grandfather passed away. Luckily we were ahead of the storm, which left us completely snowed in for 2.5 days. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & my Birthday. We were unable to leave the house :)

Thanksgiving 2009 - Deer Hunting in South Dakota

:) My first deer hunting trip in South Dakota. Thanksgiving day we were out from dawn till dusk and I shot my first deer. Went out again on Saturday - Troy's birthday. He shot a nice buck.

The buck ended up running to the bottom of the ravine. Troy & I had to drag him quite a ways back up as the truck couldn't navigate the terrain. Too bad we didn't have enough rope in the truck....ahem.

Troy shot a pretty nice buck this morning. Not the one he had his heart set on, but a mighty nice buck. I think his lucky shirt had something to do with it.

Memorial Day Weekend in South Dakota

Troy took me to his hometown over Memorial Day Weekend. This was my first trip to South Dakota since I was in the 5th grade.


We were kid free for the weekend - an excellent opportunity for us to road trip and hopefully do some hunting!

The car ride was actually a lot of fun. I had resisted going on road trips for the longest time. I guess I had never been with anyone I wanted to spend that much time in a car with. In the 9.5 hours we spent on the road, Troy "mysteriously" got a peanut M&M up his nose and we plowed through a pound of pistachios.

South Dakota was beautiful. We managed to hunt down a few prairie dogs and retired to our room early Sunday night for much needed Troy-Sarah time.
